Over the last 7 challenges that I took upon, I learned a few things that I should learn, practice and implement in order become a good UX Designer. This may not be the case for everyone but I would like to share my share of lessons.
Analyze the scenario
In a bigger tech environment there may be managers or supervisors that tell you what content you should write when developing an App or Website. But as a beginner, you get to choose the words. So, analyze the scenario and get to the best possible solution. Because small projects like these can end up on your portfolio that you can share with potential recruiters if you are looking for a new opportunity.
Time is crucial
In the last 7 challenges, I focussed on completing the writing in about 10–12 minutes after starting the challenge. Setting time limit helped me to think faster and active when working towards the challenge. So, taking less time as possible is a really good idea.
Thinking outside the box
The challenges that were sent are pretty basic. However, they are everyday scenarios and there will be ton of Apps or websites as a competition. In order to be the best, you need think outside the box. You need to gain end user attention. One of the factors for this is delivering your message in short but eye catching. The limit on the character count set in the challenge helped me understand the importance of it.
Attractive UI
UI is as important as the content in your project. In my first challenge, I made a very bad UI that I don’t think is very good in 2021(22). I was just trying to complete as fast as I can to test my skills. Turns out, I need a lot of practice. Your UI should be eye-catchy, should look clean, colours, spaces, margins are all very crucial in an App. For the rest of the challenges, I did not do any UI designs, I made a rough sketch in my notes app to have an idea in my mind. I was just trying to complete my writing in under 10 minutes which is the main purpose of the challenge. However, I am working towards designing UI for all the challenges and I will post them in a different article and would love to get your feedback.
