Hey everyone, today is the last day in the 15 Days UX Writing Challenge. In today’s challenge we will be writing a multi-screen onboarding experience for a Banking App to setup auto monthly payments for their bills. In this article, I will be discussing only about the writing part, the design part of the challenge will be discussed in future articles. Let’s get started.

The Challenge

Challenge : Write a multi-screen onboarding experience for a banking app that automatically pays a user’s bills every month — as long as they set it up correctly.

Character constraints per screen (all challenges):

Headline: 45 characters

Body: 100 characters

Button: 25 characters

Time limit: 1 hour

Screen 1 — Adding a Payee.

The first step in the setup process will be adding a payee as the challenge mentioned that this is an onboarding experience, I assumed the payee as new.

Headline: Setup your auto-payment

Body: Start your payment setup by adding your payee details. Check your info before finalizing.

Button: Add a Payee.

Screen 2 — Finding your Payee.

Almost every bank keeps up to date information regarding the list of Payees available for their users in their country, it can be local electricity company or mobile bills or university fees etc. In this page, we will set up a drop down menu with ability to search so that the user can provide further details such as account number in next screen. We can also give an option to add the Payee manually in case that particular Payee information is not available in the list.

Headline: Select your Payee.

Body: Select your payee from the list below for easy setup option or add the Payee information manually.

Button: Add details

Screen 3 — Payee details.

In this page we will give the Payee account information as well as setup monthly payment. Setting up monthly payment in this page may not be typical for many banks but I would like to see the option based upon the type of Payee you are adding. For example, your typical Wi-Fi bill will remain constant unless you exceed the limits of your contract in which case, you can pay the balance amount separately.

Headline: Provide Payee details

Body: Add your payee account number and the monthly transaction amount and the date of recurring transaction.

Button: Complete Setup

Screen 4 — Confirm details

In this page, we will display all the information selected by the user such as Payee, their account details, amount etc. So that the user can go back and make necessary changes if necessary.

Headline: Confirm Payee information

Body: Please check all the details provided to avoid transactional errors, in case of error go back and make the changes

Button: Submit.

Screen 5 — Confirmation

After submitting the details, we will send a confirmation to the user that the information has been successfully added and the amount will be deducted from their account.

Headline: Congratulations! You are ready to go.

Body: Your details are added successfully and the amount of $40 will be paid to your Payee on 1st of every month until cancelled.

Button: Back to Dashboard.

To complete this challenge, I have taken my banking app, RBC as reference and completed the process. In the design stage, I will be making some modifications that I like to see in my banking app. I hope you like my solution for this challenge.

With this we have reached the end of the challenge series, I will be submitting my designs for all the challenges in the last 15 days in a few days which includes design for the entire app. I hope to see your comments and recommendations for those designs soon. In addition to that, for day 15, we have received couple more choices to complete the challenge, I will be posting the solutions for those in next two days.
