Hey everyone, this is the last article in UX writing challenge series with small scenarios. Let’s get started.

The Challenge

Scenario: a user is shopping using a price comparison app that boasts “real-time” pricing on items. As they are checking the price of an item, something goes wrong. The problem is unknown.

Challenge: write a message that informs the user that they cannot access the app right now. You cannot specify “why” the app doesn’t work, you also want them to continue using the app.

Headline: 30 characters max
Body: 120 characters max
Button(s): 15 characters max

Apps crash or cause errors all the time, it is either because the developer trying to launch a new version of a feature in the app or there is a bug that needs to be fixed or there can be a problem in reaching the server due to high volume of users at a particular time. Whatever the reason can be, app developers have a responsibility to maintain the app and get the issue fixed so that their app users can continue using their service.

In this challenge, it was mentioned that we cannot specify to the user why they cannot access the app right now. I am kind of assuming that it is an internal company issue that cannot be disclosed to the public, but UX writer should make sure that the user will continue using their app by keeping their trust.

The Solution

Headline: Please come back after some time.

Body: We are trying to get the issue fixed asap and you will be notified if requested. You can come back where you left off. Thank you for your patience.

Buttons: Close. Notify Me.

In my solution, I am giving users a choice so that they can know when the app will be back online and by giving the choice, I am letting the users know that we want them to come back and use our app. I hope my solution is appropriate in this scenario. What will you do, if you are given the challenge? I am curious to know.

Thank you for reading the article. Hope you have a wonderful day.
