To all those who are new this challenge, 15 days UX Writing challenge is a email news letter subscription, where you will get one challenge everyday for 14 business days which should be completed in about 10 minutes. On the 15th day, you will get a case study, where you can put all your skills together and complete the final challenge in an hour. You can sign up for the challenge here.
The Challenge
Scenario: A user is creating an account. When they come to the step where they are asked to enter their name, they get an error message. A fraud detection software thinks their name is fake — but it’s wrong 5% of the time.
Challenge: Write an error message that prompts them to fix the error without shaming them for having a fake-sounding name.
45 characters max
Name is a person’s identity and it is very sensitive information. When you say that a person’s name is fake, you should either be sure about it or you should handle the situation very carefully.
Based on your place of birth, religious beliefs, your name may not be very common to many people around the world because of which some softwares may think the name you provided may be fake. In scenarios exactly like these, you wish the website owners handle the situation nicely either by providing additional options like ID verification (which is not typically ideal for common websites) or getting support. Let’s see a solution that I feel accurate in this scenario. Let me know in the comments if you have a better approach. Thanks in advance.
The Solution
Please check spelling or contact us for support.
Well, in this challenge the max characters should be 45 so, I couldn’t add much information that I intended to. However, if I have a few additional characters, below is the solution I would much appreciate if I was in this situation.
Sorry for the inconvenience, please check spelling or reach out to our support team. Thank you.
As saying that a person name as fake, the person will feel angry or sad if they encounter the same situation again and again. So, apologizing to the user should be the first thing that should be done as a mistake has been made on your end.
Thank you for reading the article. Have a nice day and happy holidays.
