The 15 days UX writing challenge is a newsletter that sends out a challenge to your email for 14 business days and the last day they send us a scenario that resembles like a job interview challenge. I have signed up for the challenge, and I will writing about my process on Medium platform. You can sign up for the challenge here.

The Scenario

A traveler is in an airport waiting for the last leg of a flight home when their flight gets abruptly canceled due to bad weather.

The Challenge

Write a message from the airline app notifying them of the cancellation and what they need to do next.

Requirements

Headline: 45 characters
Body: 175 characters max
Button(s): 25 characters max

Appearance is not the only important thing in UX Design, writing the accurate content for the scenario by taking all the parameters is extremely crucial. In this scenario, a traveler who about to go home in a few hours is grounded in the airport. The language of the message that you send to your customers is always important as that will indicate how much you will care about them.

Things that should be kept in mind.

  1. Keep the message short and accurate.
  2. State the facts.
  3. Be honest.
  4. Point them in the right direction.

Solution

Headline: Your flight to JFK has been delayed.

Body: Due to bad weather, your flight has been cancelled. Please accept our hotel stay, we will get you first possible flight out. Reach out yo support for help.

Button(s): Accept. Support.

As you can see, the design is very minimal, you can even add different tabs in the app. As the challenge is to complete this task in small time, I chose to complete only the task at hand for the moment.

It is important to know, there is no wrong design, you should keep in mind who your end user is and design and write the content accordingly. I am looking forward to do a full design of an airline application. Looking forward to see your feedback that can help me become a better designer.
